Intimate Houston Texas Wedding

It’s a surreal experience when your best friend since fifth grade asks you to photograph one of the most important days of her life. I truly cannot express the joy and elation that I felt when Katie and Matthew reached out to me about photographing their intimate Houston, Texas wedding. It was an immediate and resounding YES from me! Their wedding was intentional and reflective of the tender love Matthew and Katie have for one another.

Months before the wedding, I photographed their engagement session at Rice University. I remember walking away thinking how perfect they were together. It was just so romantic because I got to see their caring hearts for one another displayed in front of me. It felt so good knowing my best friend was marrying someone who I knew she trusted and made her feel safe. That same feeling was so intense on the day of their wedding, and you could feel the love in the air.

The morning was leisurely and filled with anticipation as everyone got ready in Matthew’s family home, which is where the reception later took place as well. One of the most prominent features of the house was the cascading staircase in the foyer. It became such an elegant backdrop throughout the day and gave the photographs a timeless quality that perfectly matched the atmosphere of the celebration.

One of my favorite memories was their first look in front of the home’s large windows. The soft natural light poured into the room as they saw each other for the first time. To see the way they looked at each other with such deep devotion and overwhelming love is something I’ll never forget.

Their traditional Catholic ceremony was equally meaningful. The deacon who officiated their marriage had also served as their premarital counselor, walking alongside them throughout their engagement. During their premarital counseling, he asked them for a list of things they loved about one another. He read those aloud during the ceremony and there wasn’t a dry eye in the chapel.

After the ceremony, everyone gathered back at the family home for a reception. It was intimate, relaxed, and so much fun. Guests enjoyed margaritas and fresh lemonade around the pool while mingling beneath the Texas sky. A taco truck served dinner from the driveway, and later in the evening everyone grabbed headphones for a backyard silent disco. It was the perfect blend of a laid back, yet modern vibe. I will always treasure the laughter and memories from my best friend’s intimate Houston wedding.

From the first day of work impressions to walking down the aisle, watching their relationship grow over the years and being a part of their big day meant so much to me. Congratulations to you both! I wish you a lifetime of love and happiness!
