Imagine this: you have the perfect vision for your Charleston engagement session, and then your photos turn out even more romantic than you dreamed, exceeding every expectation. That was exactly the case for my cousin Gabby and her fiancé, Connor, during their unforgettable light and airy Charleston engagement session this spring.
What made this shoot extra special is that it wasn’t just another session – it was family. Gabby and Connor trusted me completely, followed my style guide to perfection, and were down for literally anything. As a light and airy Charleston wedding photographer, it’s couples like them who make my job not only fun but also incredibly inspiring.
Iconic Charleston Backdrops
Charleston is truly one of the most quintessential engagement session locations in the South. We began our day at the timeless Mills House Hotel, with its soft pink facade adding the dreamiest pop of color. From there, we wandered down Chalmers Street and Rainbow Row, which are two of the most iconic spots in Charleston for engagement session photos. The pastel buildings, cobblestone streets, and historic charm created the perfect backdrop for Gabby and Connor’s elegant and timeless photos.
Connor looked sharp in a baby blue suit, while Gabby absolutely glowed in her white dress and stunning blue heels from Badgley Mischka. To complete her elegant look, she carried a petite bridal bouquet from Carolina Rose Floral, which made her look like a true pearl on the coast. Every detail spoke to the timeless elegance that makes Charleston engagement sessions so romantic.
Cypress Gardens | Where The Notebook Was Filmed
After exploring downtown Charleston, we made our way to Cypress Gardens! This location is nothing short of magical. This historic garden is famous for being featured in The Notebook, and as soon as Gabby and Connor stepped into one of the rowboats, it felt like we were stepping into a scene from the movie.
Surrounded by moss-draped trees and calm waters, the two walked around the lush grounds hand-in-hand before hopping on one of the boats. Softly and fondly they made their way down the stream, giggling and sharing soft glances as they floated along. Their boat was adorned with gorgeous floral arrangements from Pop and Palette, SC, adding just the right amount of color and whimsy to the dreamy setting – allowing the images to sparkle with color. It was hands-down one of the most romantic moments I’ve ever photographed.
