MY BEST FRIEND IS GETTING MARRIED!!! If you can’t tell, I am beyond excited to see my dear friend, Katie, and her fiancé, Matthew, get married! They plan to tie the knot in the town they call home – Houston, TX, which happens to be my home town as well! I come back to Texas multiple times a year to photograph weddings and engagement sessions. Katie graciously hired me as their wedding photographer, but I also have been upgraded to Matron of Honor! It feels like a dream come true to capture one of the biggest days of their lives, while also standing by their sides during their ceremony. To celebrate, I recently visited Houston to capture their Rice University engagement session! We had the best time together despite it being the heat of summer.
Rice University Engagement Session
Katie and Matthew met four years ago on the golf course where they both worked. I still remember Katie calling me when she saw there was a “new guy” working that day that was “really cute”. Even though they didn’t connect initially after meeting, eventually Matthew asked Katie out and she, of course, said yes. On that first date, they immediately hit it off, started dating and fell in love over the course of their relationship. After three years of dating, Matthew got down on one knee and surprised Katie with a sweet and romantic proposal! Now, here we are capturing their engagement at Rice University and planning their wedding day.
Best Friends Since Fifth Grade
Katie and I met on the first day of fifth grade when we were seated right next to each other in English. I picked up Katie’s pencil for her after multiple times of her dropping it. After introducing herself, we quickly became inseparable. We had countless sleepovers, craft days, jammed to Hannah Montana, High School Musical, and Jonas Brothers together all day after school. She and I went to see countless movies together and shared many shopping trips. Sometimes we spent days together at one another’s houses.
We also were in Choir together from 5th-12th grade! Throughout concerts and pop shows, we danced and sang across the stage together. Katie is my only friend who I have walked through this much life with and our bond is still strong. We have been through every single season of life… crying, cheering each other on, and laughing through it all.
Katie was a bridesmaid in my wedding and I just thought about all of the conversations we had about what our wedding days would look like when we were kids. This is definitely a full circle moment and I cannot wait to be by Katie’s side on her fall wedding day as well! I am absolutely honored to be a part of their wedding and have the joy of capturing their wedding day. Thank you so very much for making me a part of your lives.
And Katie… We did it!! Our fifth grade dreams came true and we found the men of our dreams! To say I am excited for your wedding is an understatement!
